Middletown Community Health & Dental Center

Staff at Middletown Community Health and Dental Center

Wonderful! Beautiful! Magnificent! These were just some of the superlatives people have used to describe the new Middletown Community Health Center. The Butler County Community Health Consortium, d.b.a. Primary Health Solutions (PHS), proudly hosted a community Open House on Sunday January 29, 2012. This state-of-the-art, 22,000 square foot facility will make it possible to meet the increasing health care needs of Butler County and surrounding areas offering after-hours care, pre-natal care, expanded dental, behavioral health, along with laboratory and pharmacy services.

Primary Health Solutions received $4.7 Million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, federal stimulus funds from theAmerican Recovery and Reinvestment Act which specifically earmarked funding for major construction and renovation projects for community health centers nationwide. CEO Marc Bellisario notes that the new dental clinic was completed at a cost of $75,000 per operatory. The average per patient cost to PHS is $265, while the net income received per patient for dental care services is $144 creating an ongoing fiscal imbalance. PHS is continuing its commitment to providing quality dental care, while actively implementing cost saving measures and seeking additional revenue to offset the imbalance.

Clearly, the jewel of the Open House was the new Dental Center which features eight treatment rooms; seven are completely outfitted with digital radiography, Dentrix dental software paired with NextGen practice management software linked to the medical side of the Health Center. The Dental Center also obtained a panoramic x-ray machine, giving the dental staff the capability for a more comprehensive view of the oral cavity and surrounding tissues. The clinic currently serves more than 2,000 dental patients with a staff of seven, including a dentist, a dental hygienist, dental assistants, an expanded functions dental auxiliary (EFDA) and a receptionist. There are future plans to hire another dentist and accompanying auxiliary staff to meet the ever growing oral health needs of the region.

Historically, the dental clinic at Middletown Community Health Center began providing continuous oral health services in the three chair dental clinic in late 2007. It offered affordable oral health care by accepting Ohio Medicaid, some private insurance and a sliding fee schedule to qualifying clients who met federal poverty guidelines, with emphasis on caring for low-income families. PHS is continuing its commitment to provide the needed dental service and these policies continue today with the clinic’s mission to make comprehensive health care available to area residents. No one is denied service regardless of ability to pay.

The new Middletown Community Dental Center is located at 1036 South Verity Parkway, Middletown, Ohio and is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dental services include preventive, restorative, dentures and emergency care. The dental staff has multi-lingual capacity to accommodate French, Russian, Polish and Spanish speaking patients. Please call (513) 425-6811 to make an appointment.
