Vineyard Columbus Church Free Health Clinics

The Vineyard Free Health Clinics were established in 1994 when two physicians felt called by God to live out their faith by providing medical services to those who could not afford basic health care in the Weinland Park neighborhood of Columbus near the Ohio State University campus. In 2002, the clinic relocated from a makeshift set-up in the Vineyard Columbus Food Pantry to its own building at 171 East Fifth Avenue. The renovated building included an optometry room and a dental operatory with two chairs. In 2006, the health clinics expanded services from the Fifth Avenue site to a second location at the Vineyard Community Center in Westerville providing dental, vision, medical and chiropractic services to patients in Northeast Columbus.

The Vineyard Free Clinics’ mission is to transform the city with the support of many willing and capable faith-based volunteers who hail from the Vineyard Columbus, as well as a host of other churches from the Greater Columbus area. Currently, the free dental clinics maintain an impressive staff of sixteen dentists, thirteen dental assistants, eight dental hygienists and nine administrative staff. All are volunteers, with most serving once or twice a month providing comprehensive dental care including preventive services, restorations and simple extractions.  Funding sources include the Vineyard Columbus and local grants, plus private and corporate donations.

The future looks very bright for the Vineyard Community Center because their premise is simple: they ask, “What are the programs the poor and underserved populations need to conduct healthy, meaningful lives?” The answers lie in the talents, passion and expertise of their congregation, and their commitment to community outreach for a greater Columbus – a truly winning combination.

The primary focus of the Vineyard Free Clinics is on adults who do not have insurance, Medicaid or Medicare, and who live with incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Upon income qualification all services are free. The clinics are accepting new dental patients at both locations. To make an appointment for the Westerville site, patients should call (614) 259-5428 on Fridays from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. The Fifth Avenue clinic is currently operating as a walk-in clinic for residents of the 43201 zip code area. This clinic is sponsored by a grant through the Jane H. Zimmerman Fund for At Risk Youth of the Columbus Foundation.
