Compassionate Care of Shelby County
Compassionate Care of Shelby County (CCSC) is celebrating five years of serving the medical needs of the uninsured residents of Shelby County, Ohio. CCSC was founded in 2007 by executive director, Teresa Ditmer, RN, CNS, as “a faith-based health care center respectfully providing quality care and hope to the underserved of Shelby County.” Mrs. Ditmer researched and discovered that Shelby County had approximately 4,300 residents without medical insurance.
CCSC has a 12-member Board of Trustees to assist in the clinic’s strategic planning. CCSC is entirely funded through donations from individuals, churches, corporations, and civic organizations. Since July 2008, the United Way has also provided funding. CCSC is able to provide free care to Shelby County residents through time and talent donated by over 100 active volunteers. Since opening on August 1, 2007, 38,000 volunteer hours have been donated.
CCSC has provided primary medical care to over 2,500 unduplicated patients during more than 17,000 office visits. Services include diagnosis of disease and preventive health care. CCSC also provides patients assistance through various drug programs that fill prescriptions at no cost to the patient.
The need for dental services has been evident since the clinic opened in 2007. Thanks to the generosity of Midmark Corporation and volunteer dentists and dental hygienists, CCSC opened the dental suite July 1, 2009 and have seen more than 600 patients to date. Currently the dental staff consists of volunteers, including eight dentists, five dental hygienists and 19 dental assistants.
A major renovation/remodeling project has created one of the finest dental facilities in the area. The dental suite is equipped with three dental operatories and includes a Progeny panoramic x-ray unit, ultrasonic cleaners and digital intra-oral x-ray equipment.
CCSC is located at 124 North Ohio Avenue, Sidney, Ohio. Only Shelby County residents who are uninsured and have incomes below 200% of poverty are eligible to be seen. CCSC hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Medical patients are seen by appointment Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
