Family Healthcare Of Meigs County

Family Healthcare, Inc. (FHI) operates seven community health center sites in south central and southeastern Ohio. Offices are located in Chillicothe, McArthur, Pomeroy, Logan, New Lexington, The Plains and Nelsonville. The mission of Family Healthcare is to provide access to affordable, high-quality healthcare without discrimination.

In June 2009, FHI received a $1,019,265 grant from the Health Resources & Services Administration for the Capital Improvement Program funded by the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The FHI board of directors targeted the ARRA funding toward the construction of a new facility in Meigs County that would include the addition of dental services. Plans for the new office in Pomeroy were based on the design of the McArthur office that had undergone expansion in 2005, while making some needed improvements and modifications to the design. The ARRA grant did not provide enough available capital to complete construction, so Family Healthcare then turned to the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Program for a loan in the amount of $1,323,000. The process was lengthy, but the project finally accepted bids in December 2010 and construction began in April 2011. The building was completed in March 2012 and has 10,700 square feet. It includes 11 medical exam rooms, one procedure room and five state-of-the-art dental operatories.

Family Healthcare worked for several years with the Meigs County Health Department’s Appalachian Dental Clinic to provide oral health care to uninsured patients in the area. Eventually conversations led to the plan that FHI would assume the operations of the Appalachian Dental Clinic upon completion of the new FHI building. That transition occurred in April 2012.

The dental team provides services in two FHI offices – McArthur and Pomeroy. Two part-time dentists provide coverage that allows the dental team to be present Monday through Friday. The dental auxiliary staff is comprised of two full-time dental assistants and one part-time dental hygienist.

Family Healthcare of Meigs County is located at 41865 Pomeroy Pike in Pomeroy. Patients are seen by appointment; patients with emergencies are worked into the schedule as necessary. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Dental services include preventive, restorative, dentures and emergency care. The clinic accepts Ohio Medicaid, private insurance and offers a sliding fee schedule to qualifying clients who meet federal poverty guidelines, with emphasis on caring for low-income families. Patients may call 740-992-0540 to schedule an appointment.
