1.3 Policies and Procedures That Need to Be in Place When a Clinic Opens


Not all P&Ps must be in place when a clinic opens; some can be developed over time. But, at minimum, P&Ps for the following should be in place from the outset:

  • patient receiving treatmentOrganizational structure
  • Scope of services
  • Hiring, including credentialing and privileging of professional staff
  • Financial management
  • Clinic insurance
  • Appointment and walk-ins
  • Informed consent (for more information about informed consent, see module 5, Informed Consent)
  • Infection control, including exposure control (required by federal regulation)
  • Hazard communications (required by federal regulation)
  • Clinic safety
  • Evaluation
