1.3. Developing a Business Plan

hygienist and childScope of Programs and Services

This section offers a description of the services the clinic provides and new services it proposes to provide. Enough detail must be included in the section so that readers understand what is being done or what is being proposed, but too much detail can make readers lose interest.

Technical details about oral health services (e.g., a description of instruments used for root canal therapy) should not appear in the business plan. Rather, list the different categories of oral health services provided, (e.g., emergency, preventive, restorative, prosthetics, other specialty services), provide a short description of what services are included in each category, and explain why the services are important. Statistical information such as the number of each type of service provided, the dollar value of these services, and the number of patients receiving services is also useful.
