Overview
 This module addresses dental caries as an infectious disease and also discusses factors that affect caries risk. The module discusses the etiology and progression of dental caries, risk classification, and modifying factors. In addition, the module presents a dental risk classification table to help dentists determine a patient's risk status.

- Explain the process whereby dental caries progresses from demineralization to tooth cavitation.
- List the four basic elements required for dental caries formation.
- Identify the bacteria that are most often implicated in dental caries.
- Describe what the concept of risk-based dental caries management is based on.
