The Dental H.O.M.E. (Health Outreach Mobile Experience) Coach rolled through the streets of Franklin County and provided dental treatment to over 2,000 children in Columbus Public Schools in 10 months.

The Dental H.O.M.E. Coach provided oral health care to children in school. The care was provided by dental students, who are supervised by highly trained dental professionals from Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The graduating class of 2008 provided over 7,338 procedures, an estimated $236,000 in dental services, to elementary school-age children.

Public insurance was billed when possible, however, children without insurance received treatement as well. The program provided care to 1,756 children enrolled in Medicaid and 246 children without insurance.

The dental coach services have made a difference in the quality of life of children shown by a decrease in absenteeism and unnecessary pain.
